Honouring the Life and Legacy of Pope Francis
With profound sorrow, the Galileo Foundation joins the global community in mourning the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis. A shepherd of boundless compassion, unwavering faith, and tireless dedication to justice, Pope Francis leaves behind a world profoundly shaped by his moral leadership and steadfast commitment to the dignity of every human being.
Throughout his papacy, Pope Francis championed the causes of the marginalised, the oppressed, and the forgotten. His advocacy for the victims of human trafficking, his unwavering support for migrants and refugees, and his calls for environmental stewardship have left an indelible mark on the conscience of humanity. His vision of a Church that extends a hand to all, regardless of background or belief, has been a beacon of hope and unity in an often-divided world.
The Galileo Foundation had the honour of collaborating with His Holiness on initiatives that reflected his deep commitment to social justice, interfaith dialogue, and human dignity. Our mission to strengthen the capacity of the Catholic Church and support the apostolic mission of Pope Francis has been guided by his inspiring leadership. We have been privileged to fund projects advancing key initiatives of the Holy Father, such as the global fight against human trafficking, amplifying the voices of migrants and refugees, supporting Christian communities in the Holy Land, and promoting dialogue and collaboration among all faiths.
In a private audience on 8th February 2019, the feast day of St Josephine Bakhita, the patron saint of victims of trafficking, Pope Francis expressed his personal appreciation for the foundation’s ‘generous commitment to the Church’s pastoral mission.’ He emphasised our contribution to ‘raising awareness of the plight of those who suffer from poverty and exploitation, especially those entrapped by the deadly crime of human trafficking.’ His words continue to inspire us to carry forward his legacy of compassion, action, and fraternity.
As we mourn his loss, we also celebrate his extraordinary life and the transformative impact of his papacy. His teachings will continue to illuminate the path for those who seek justice, peace, and reconciliation in our world.
The Galileo Foundation remains steadfast in honouring Pope Francis’ vision by continuing to support initiatives that reflect his unwavering commitment to the Gospel’s call for love and service. We extend our deepest prayers to the faithful around the world and to all who were touched by the kindness, wisdom, and humility of Pope Francis.
