The Galileo Foundation is extremely proud of our partnership with the network of religious sisters who comprise ‘Talitha Kum’. They are over 2000 in over 70 countries throughout the world of many different congregations and denominations who are dedicated to working with victims and survivors of trafficking.
Pope Francis asked the Galileo Foundation to help raise awareness of their work as the 10th anniversary of the network approached in 2019, so the foundation commissioned award-winning humanitarian photographer Lisa Kristine to visit a number of the Talitha Kum locations around the world to document the amazing work that the sisters do on the ground and often in very challenging circumstances.
The results have moved all of those who have seen the photographs. They give witness to the plight of the victims and survivors but they also convey hope and even joy.
His Holiness Pope Francis inaugurated the exhibition in the Paul VI Hall of the Vatican on May 10th, 2019, when he had the opportunity to meet the photographer, some of the sisters and the organisers and sponsors. Pope Francis also signed one of the photographs which he hopes can be auctioned in the future to benefit the work of the sisters.
Since then, the exhibition has been exhibited at the UN in New York and in Tokyo during the Pope’s apostolic visit to Japan in November.
